The above article is about one or two Ph D's beyond my reading
comprehension level.
However, it isn't totally impossible for a moron like me to get some
good things out of it. And it does provide amusement concerning the
contortions through which physicists have to go to explain
observations that do not fit their notions of "how it really is."
It's part of a larger subject called "Aetherometry," which so far as I
have read about it (which ain't much yet), concerns the "aether," and
some kind of attempt to bring it back into the mainstream of science.
(Aether theory has long been discredited, but occasionally enjoys a
brief resurgence in scientific discussions when other explanations
don't work.)
Whether the aetherists are right or not, their conflict with the
"standard model" proponents is fascinating in the same way that two
politicians are when each is telling the scandalous truth about the
other---- which is about the only time that politicians do tell the
truth.
You might want to give it a quick scan to see if it makes you chuckle
a bit. It's fascinating to think that forthcoming discoveries in
science may require a total and complete re-thinking of physics from
the ground up. A lot of people are going to hate that. I'm reminded
of the complaint by one physics teacher--- something like--- this
theory simply cannot be true---- why, I'd have to re-write all the
textbooks I've authored.
Oh yeah. Now THAT'S a good reason.
