Unbelievably I have one for the Russ file.
At the local casino here that runs a 2-40 spread game. They had what
was essentially marked deck at the game. The backs were horribly cut on
the brown deck, the green deck was fine.
You could reliably read the suit of any given card by looking at the
back of the deck. I could do so from across the table, once I figured
out the pattern.
I could 100% identify Diamonds from across the way, and 100% identify
minor and major suits, and could reliably next to me identify all 4
suits. This is just in about an hour of playing.
From a poker standpoint just knowing suits was useful, but the sessions
are awfully short, and the players straight forward enough to make suits
not very useful. But there would be some hands where you would likely
to save a bet by knowing the draws or amount of outs you had.
(Playing bridge this would have been enough information to completely
trounce the opposition).
Interestingly enough, pointing out the problem to the house 3 times, and
then demonstrating my "psychic powers" to the table, and I don't know if
they replaced the deck, because I just left.
I am one of those suckers that just can't take advantage of the crooked
game given to me. I really hope that they straighten it out, cuz I LIKE
playing there.
